Rep. Garret Graves, a U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 6th district since 2015, recently shared insights on freshwater management and its impact on estuarine productivity and fisheries in Louisiana through a series of tweets. The posts reflect his ongoing engagement with environmental and infrastructural issues pertinent to his constituency.

On November 21, 2024, Rep. Graves emphasized the benefits of managing freshwater flows for enhancing estuarine productivity and sustaining fisheries in Louisiana. He stated, "In fact, the management of freshwater flows can even help to improve estuarine productivity and ensure a sustainable fishery in Louisiana."

In another tweet on the same day, he highlighted the protective features of the Mississippi River Basin Diversion (MBSD) project. He noted that it includes a control structure capable of regulating or halting freshwater flows entirely, supported by a comprehensive monitoring system to meet project objectives. Rep. Graves wrote, "The MBSD actually provides even more protection by having a control structure that can govern or completely stop freshwater flows alongside a robust monitoring system to ensure project goals are achieved."

Later that day, Rep. Graves critiqued certain arguments related to environmental policy as outdated trends akin to fleeting fads from two decades ago. He remarked, "Like other fads from 20 years ago, these arguments were fashionable for a minute and quickly exhausted. Like toy dog accessories."
