A Texas man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles handed down the sentence to Marco Godinez, 36, from Houston, Texas. In addition to his prison term, Godinez will serve three years of supervised release.

The sentencing follows Godinez's guilty plea related to an incident on November 8, 2022. According to court documents, Godinez was stopped by an Iberville Parish law enforcement officer for a traffic violation. After consenting to a vehicle search upon being informed he would receive a traffic warning violation, officers discovered five kilograms of cocaine in the truck bed.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jene C. Clayton.

United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr., announced the sentencing outcome.
