Fewer students enrolled in Pointe Coupee Parish’s only school district in 2021-22 school year

The only school district in Pointe Coupee Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 2,646 students in the halls of Pointe Coupee Parish School District schools, 2.8% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Pointe Coupee Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.9% of them were boys, and 49.1% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black or African American, representing 56% of the Pointe Coupee Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Pointe Coupee Parish School District has a main office in New Roads and is the only school district within Pointe Coupee Parish.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.
