Special School District welcomed 151 students in 2021-22 school year

There were 151 students enrolled in Special School District schools in the 2021-22 school year, 14.7% less than the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 72.2% of them were boys, and 27.8% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 53% of the Special School District total enrollment.

Special School District covers approximately eight schools within East Baton Rouge Parish, with its main office in Baton Rouge.

Among the eight schools in Special School District, Pinecrest Supports & Services Center recorded the highest enrollment of 83 students in the 2021-22 school year.

The majority of Louisiana students were identified as white and Black, representing 48% and 37% of the state student body respectively during the 2021-22 academic year. Hispanic students made up 8.6% of the student body, and other ethnic minorities made up 5.6%.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students, compared to the national average of 1:16.
