Cost of college went up for all students at Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.1 percent for 2018-19 at Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Louisiana residents paid $11,950 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $576 more than the $11,374 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 139.6 percent more than residents this year, or $28,627. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $28,051 in 2017-18.

About 77 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Louisiana residents. About 22 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 4,547 students received grants or scholarships totaling $53.7 million and 1,769 students took out student loans totaling more than $11.7 million.

Including all undergraduates (30,983), 18,221 students used grants or scholarships totaling $210.7 million, and 7,993 students took out $53.8 million in federal student loans.
