37 percent of applicants to Southern University and A & M College were admitted for fall 2018

At Southern University and A & M College, 86 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 64 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Baton Rouge enrolled 6,693 students in fall 2018, including 5,838 in undergraduate and 855 in graduate programs, data shows. 5.4 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

78 percent of undergraduates are residents of Louisiana, and 22 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (92 percent) and white (2 percent).

The school admitted 37 percent of the 11,245 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 32 percent enrolled.
