This week in Baton Rouge Metro history.

James Charles Taylor, NFL fullback, died Oct. 13, 2018

James Charles Taylor died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on October 13, 2018. He was born there in 1935 and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. He played college football at LSU, where he led the Southeastern Conference in scoring in 1956 and 1957. He earned All-America and All-SEC honors. Taylor was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1958. He played ten seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Packers, and one season with the New Orleans Saints. He won four NFL championships and the first Super Bowl. He led the league in rushing yards in 1962 and was named NFL MVP. He was the first to rush for over 1,000 yards in five consecutive seasons. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1976. After football, he stayed active in Baton Rouge and supported LSU athletics. Taylor was frequently seen at local sporting events and LSU games.
