Congressman Garret Graves and St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell announced the House's unanimous approval of H.R. 8753. This bill instructs the U.S. Postal Service to assign unique ZIP Codes to Montz, LA, LSU-Baton Rouge, LA, and other communities nationwide.

Graves explained the ongoing challenges with USPS regarding ZIP Code issues in these areas: “We have tried working with USPS for years to get Montz their own ZIP code, and to consolidate the balkanized ZIPs that fit in and around LSU. Simple, right? Wrong. The confusion of missing and disjointed ZIPs means that retirement checks, important documents and parish administration gets delayed, misdirected, and confounded." He credited House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer for his support in passing the bill.

St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell highlighted the benefits of a unique ZIP Code for Montz: “The addition of a unique ZIP code for the Montz community will improve everything from mail delivery to emergency response services.” He expressed gratitude towards Congressman Graves for his efforts.

The bill is now pending Senate approval before being sent to the president for signing.
