Baton Rouge, LA – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome continues to lead the charge in supporting crucial projects vital to the future of Baton Rouge. Ahead of an important Metropolitan Council hearing this week, Mayor Broome is leading support for a transformational parish-wide initiative that would develop a new LSU arena, revitalize the River Center, and enhance Memorial Stadium.

“We have to envision a future that will attract our young people to stay here in Baton Rouge, something all of us here want as parents and grandparents,” Mayor Broome said, emphasizing that realizing these projects hinges on government collaboration in public-private partnerships. “The River Center, overseen by the City-Parish, holds immense potential for rejuvenation. I am encouraged by the bipartisan unity for these projects. This collaboration serves as the blueprint for the future of Baton Rouge. These endeavors are a catalyst for uplifting our disinvested communities, stimulating economic growth, fostering neighborhood cohesion, and attracting top-tier entertainment to Baton Rouge.” Recognizing the importance of public-private partnerships, Mayor Broome underscores the need to transcend partisan divides and geographical barriers to achieve success in Baton Rouge and propel the Capital Region forward.

Mayor Broome acknowledges the efforts of Councilwoman Carolyn Coleman, in whose district LSU and the River Center lie, and other council members supporting this effort, as well as LSU’s Tiger Athletic Foundation and other local leaders involved in crafting this plan. As a co-sponsor of the ordinance presented before the Metropolitan Council, Mayor Broome urges its favorable passage when discussed in a public hearing on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
