BATON ROUGE, La. (January 18, 2023) — The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC)’s BR Works jobs portal today marked its first anniversary with over 81,500 page views and 13,900 users since its 2022 launch. The BR Works site can be visited at br.works.
“The first year of the BR Works site has been incredible to witness,” said Maggi Spurlock, BRAC’s director of talent development. “We have over 10,800 jobs listed and over 7,900 skills added to users’ profiles, and we have seen the platform evolve and introduce upskilling opportunities. We have worked with some incredible partners like Lightcast, who have developed the technology for the site; our local colleges, who have jumped at the opportunity to provide local courses for the site’s upskilling feature; and, our regional partners, who have amplified the site to their audiences making its first year a huge success. We are looking forward to this year as we continue to explore ways to further develop the site and elevate its goal of matching jobseekers to Capital Region jobs.”
The portal has garnered page views from across the country with most views unsurprisingly located in the Baton Rouge Area, but also with significant views in the Chicago and Dallas regions. These findings align with previous research conducted by BRAC’s Business Intelligence team showing that both Cook County (Chicago) and Dallas County (Dallas) are two of the top ten counties from which the Capital Region sees an influx of high-income households.
BRAC began BR Works in a simplified form in 2020 in response to drastic changes to the jobs landscape amid the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The site was then transformed in 2022 to a full-scale job, training, and resource hub for Capital Region workers and a tool for increased talent attraction efforts.
BR Works is built on data provided by the national labor market analytics firm Lightcast. Visitors to the site can complete a simple skills assessment or upload a resume to be matched to open jobs in the region, ranked by compatibility. Alternatively, job seekers can browse all available regional jobs, sorting by job title or industry sector. The platform lists the median salary for a given job, and, when available, the posted salary. For the best user experience, BRAC suggests job seekers create a profile to begin getting matched.
The BR Works site is powered by Cox Communications. Regional partners of the BR Works initiative include BRCC, City of Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish Library, EmployBR, FranU, ITI Technical College, LSU, RPCC, and Southern University.
