Baton Rouge metro lag behind San Juan-Carolina-Caguas in 2019

The Baton Rouge metro area exported $4.3 billion in 2019, less than exports from San Juan-Carolina-Caguas in 2019, according to the International Trade Administration.

A study from the Brookings Institute found competition between areas within the United States increases exports, which in turn generates stronger sales and more jobs for American workers.

The Baton Rouge metro area consists of seven counties.

The San Juan-Carolina-Caguas metro area comprises three counties exporting $4.7 billion in 2019.

The metro area with the most exports was Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land with $129.7 billion exported.
