The Southern University softball team will host Alcorn in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series at Lady Jaguar Field beginning March 27. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m., with a doubleheader set for Saturday starting at noon.
This matchup comes as Southern, holding a record of 19-11 overall and 5-4 in SWAC play, enters the weekend after sweeping Xavier of Louisiana in a doubleheader earlier this week. The Lady Jaguars relied on strong pitching performances and timely hitting to secure both victories.
Ava Wallace led the offense during the sweep with four hits, including a triple, and two runs batted in. Abigail Mitchell contributed three hits highlighted by a home run and drove in two runs. Asia George and Izabell Astran each added two hits and an RBI.
Pitchers Jordynn Jennings, Chakirrious Parker, and Haley Hinds combined to limit Xavier’s offense throughout both games. Jennings played a key role out of the bullpen by earning both a win and a save across the doubleheader, while Parker secured the victory in game two. In critical moments—such as bases loaded situations—Jennings managed to keep Xavier from scoring further runs with effective relief pitching.
