Southern University and A&M College announced on Apr. 25 the speakers for its Spring 2026 Commencement ceremonies, which will take place at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. The graduate ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 2 p.m., while the undergraduate ceremony will be held on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m.

The announcement of commencement speakers is an important milestone for graduating students and their families as they prepare to celebrate academic achievements.

Harry Williams, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), will address graduates during the graduate ceremony. TMCF is a nonprofit organization that supports students attending publicly funded historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and predominantly Black institutions through scholarships, leadership development, and career opportunities. Under Williams’ leadership, TMCF has experienced significant growth by strengthening partnerships with major employers and expanding opportunities for HBCU students. Williams previously served as president of Delaware State University.

Paula A. Shepherd will serve as speaker for the undergraduate ceremony. Shepherd is senior vice president and chief operating officer of Banner Plans and Networks, an organization affiliated with Banner Health that provides health plans and network services across multiple states with a focus on coordinated patient-centered care. With over two decades in healthcare leadership—including executive roles at Blue Cross—Shepherd has overseen operations serving millions of members. She is also a two-time Southern University alumna who remains active in community service, ministry, and board leadership throughout Louisiana.

The ceremonies will feature recording artist Justin Garner performing the national anthem. Garner is an R&B singer-songwriter from Plaquemine, Louisiana who graduated from Southern University; he has performed internationally as well as for major professional sports teams.

Both commencement events are open to the public without ticket requirements. Additional information can be found at subr.edu/sucommencement.
