The Southern University softball team will travel to Arkansas–Pine Bluff for a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series starting Friday, March 20, at the Tori Hunter Softball Complex. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, with a doubleheader set for Saturday beginning at noon.

The Lady Jaguars (15-10 overall, 3-3 in conference) enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak. Their recent victories include a doubleheader sweep of Louisiana Christian, where they hit seven home runs across both games.

Abigail Mitchell led the offense with three home runs during the doubleheader. Prestashia White added two homers, while Asia George and Laila Clark each contributed one. Clark’s walk-off home run in game two secured the sweep for Southern.

The team’s batting performance was strong, finishing with a .400 average and collecting 22 hits over the two games. Multiple players had more than one hit, including Izabell Astran, White, Katiana Maldonado, Mitchell, Clark, George, and Ava Wallace.

Pitchers Hayley Hinds and Aaliyah Zabala earned wins in the circle. Hinds started game one and allowed five hits and one walk over four innings. In game two, Chakirrious Parker pitched into the sixth inning before Zabala closed out the win with 1.2 innings of relief and two strikeouts.

Laila Clark continues to lead Southern offensively and was recently named SWAC Newcomer of the Week after her performance against Grambling. She is currently batting .438 this season and has recorded a hit and an RBI in 12 consecutive games—the longest active streak in the nation.
