The Southern Jaguars defeated the McNeese State Cowboys baseball team 6–2 at Joe Miller Ballpark on Mar. 24, delivering what was described as one of their most complete performances of the season.
The win matters for the Jaguars as it demonstrates their ability to control a game from start to finish against a quality opponent, building momentum for upcoming conference play.
Southern took an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning and maintained control throughout, adding insurance runs in the third, fifth, and eighth innings. The offense totaled 13 hits with contributions across the lineup. KJ White Jr. went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI; Brant Stewart was 2-for-5 with two RBIs; Kennedy Drexler finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored; and Luis Ayala contributed an RBI and a walk.
On the mound, starter Myles Dismute earned his second win of the season by pitching four innings, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out three batters. The bullpen combined for seven strikeouts over four innings, including Alexavier Lebron’s three strikeouts in one inning and Genesis Prosper’s four strikeouts over two innings. In total, Southern’s pitching staff struck out eleven batters while limiting McNeese to five hits.
Southern outhit McNeese by eight hits (13–5) and scored in four different innings despite striking out ten times at the plate themselves. Defensively, they committed only one error during the game.
Looking ahead, Southern will return home for a three-game series against Prairie View A&M this weekend.
