Southern defeated Alcorn State 17-5 on April 18 in Game 2 of their Southwestern Athletic Conference weekend series, securing the series victory with a strong offensive performance.
The game was marked by Southern’s explosive start, as the team scored six runs in the first inning. This early lead allowed them to maintain control throughout the contest and eventually achieve a run-rule–threatening margin. The Jaguars recorded a total of 16 hits and drew 13 walks, demonstrating both power and patience at the plate.
KJ White Jr. led Southern’s offense by going 4-for-7 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Kameron Byrd contributed three hits and two RBIs, while Ryan Hunter drove in three runs for a game-high total. Other key contributors included Jacoby Radcliffe and Kenyon Hughes, who each added two RBIs. Jaylon Lucky reached base frequently without recording a hit, drawing six walks and scoring three times.
On the pitching side, Myles Dismute improved his record to 4-0 after working seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out seven batters. Jayden Lawrence finished the game with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Southern continued its offensive surge late in the game by scoring four more runs in the ninth inning behind extra-base hits from Beny Bikar Jr. and Hunter. Eight different players recorded RBIs for Southern during this balanced team effort.
The Jaguars will aim to complete a sweep of Alcorn State in the series finale.
