The LSU track and field team ended their regular season at the LSU Invitational on May 2, where Shawnti Jackson won the women’s 100-meter race with a time of 10.93 seconds. The event took place at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Jackson’s performance marked her first time running the 100 meters as a member of the Tigers. Her winning time places her third in the nation for the year and is her fastest collegiate result, approaching her high school personal best of 10.89 seconds. She now ranks among the NCAA top five in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and as part of the 4×400-meter relay team, in addition to holding a collegiate record in the 300 meters set earlier this season.
In other results from Saturday’s meet, sophomore Edna Chepkemoi set an LSU record by finishing first in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:14.35, improving upon her previous personal record from last year by nearly eighteen seconds.
The men’s high jump saw Justine Jimoh and Kameron Franklin both clear heights of 2.17 meters (7-1.5), securing second and third place finishes respectively and tying for eighth-best in LSU history.
Additional highlights noted by head coach Dennis Shaver included Abigael Chemnagei setting a personal best in the women’s 1500 meters (4:23.30), Jaiden Reid winning the men’s 100 meters (10.05), Alexis Guillory winning javelin (171-11), Marley Richard achieving a long jump personal best (19-11), Jack Larriviere taking first place in men’s javelin (247-7), Jillian Scully winning discus (176-1), and victory for LSU’s men’s team in the four-by-400 meter relay with a time of 3:07.37.
As athletes look ahead to postseason competition, these performances close out what has been described as a strong regular season for both individual competitors and relay teams.
