The LSU track and field team reported on April 17 that Shawnti Jackson ran her first 200-meter race in over two years, recording a time of 22.35 seconds at the Tom Jones Invitational. This performance marks the fourth fastest time in the world this year and places her second among NCAA athletes for the event.
Jackson’s achievement also puts her eighth on LSU’s all-time performance list for the women’s 200 meters, moving ahead of notable athletes such as Muna Lee, Esther Jones, and D’Andre Hill. The time matches her personal record set during the Pan American Games in August 2023 when she was seventeen years old.
In addition to Jackson’s run, freshman Athaleyha Hinckson set a new Guyanese under-20 national record with a time of 23.03 seconds in the same race, improving upon her previous best by five hundredths of a second.
On the men’s side, Jack Larriviere led LSU’s javelin squad with a throw of 78.66 meters on his second attempt—breaking his own personal record and solidifying his position as number two on LSU’s all-time list for men’s javelin. Sophomore Paul Catalanatto Jr. finished fifth with a new personal best throw of 73.22 meters, which moves him to seventh place on LSU’s all-time list.
Senior Jordan Turner continued his strong season by achieving a season-best long jump distance of 8.08 meters at Tom Jones Invitational, earning him seventh place in school history and placing him second among NCAA competitors for this outdoor season.
