The No. 7 LSU men’s tennis team, holding a record of 20-4 overall and 6-3 in Southeastern Conference play, will travel to face No. 23 Auburn on March 27 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, followed by a match against No. 17 Vanderbilt on March 29 at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center.
These matches are significant as LSU aims to build on its strong season performance and maintain its high ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association standings. The Tigers have reached the milestone of twenty wins for the first time since 2005 and currently sit third in SEC standings.
Head coach Danny Bryan said, “I really like how the guys responded this week in practice after a disappointing match last Sunday. This road trip will be challenging, but I believe our guys have the right mindset and we’re excited to play.”
LSU recently split its SEC matchups, defeating Arkansas before falling to Mississippi State. Standout performances this season include freshman Erik Arutiunian and senior Matias Ponce de Leon as a ranked doubles pair, while Arutiunian also leads singles at No. 24 nationally with six wins over ranked opponents.
Auburn enters Friday’s contest with a three-match losing streak but holds a strong home record of ten wins out of eleven matches under head coach Bobby Reynolds. Vanderbilt comes into Sunday’s matchup following a win, guided by head coach Scott Brown who returned to his alma mater in 2023 after coaching championship teams at Virginia.
Several LSU players have earned conference honors this season: Olaf Pieczkowski was named SEC Player of the Week for his win over Sebastian Gorzny; Arutiunian has twice been named SEC Freshman of the Week; while other contributors such as Andrej Loncarevic, Sasa Markovic, Alessio Vasquez, and Ponce de Leon have all recorded important victories during conference play.
Looking ahead, LSU seeks to continue its success away from home where it holds a four-win record this season.
