Mississippi State defeated LSU 9-8 after a late comeback on April 25 at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs scored seven runs over the final two innings, overcoming a five-run deficit against the Tigers.
The result brings Mississippi State’s record to 33-10 overall and 12-8 in Southeastern Conference play, while LSU falls to 24-20 overall and 6-14 in conference games. The teams are scheduled to conclude their series Sunday afternoon with a broadcast available on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streaming on SEC Network +.
LSU coach Jay Johnson said, “We competed well, we were ready to play. We’ve had to do some shifting of our personnel due to some unique circumstances, but our players are in the fight.”
Jack Bauer earned the win for Mississippi State by allowing only one run on three hits across nearly four innings of relief work, striking out eight without issuing a walk. Grant Fontenot took the loss for LSU after giving up two runs—one earned—on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts over two innings.
LSU started strong with Omar Serna Jr.’s RBI double and Cade Arrambide’s two-run homer in the first inning. Mississippi State responded with home runs from Ace Reese and Jacob Parker—the latter hitting a grand slam during a five-run seventh inning that tied the game at seven apiece. In the eighth inning, Noah Sullivan’s RBI single gave Mississippi State its first lead of the night; an additional run scored later following an LSU error.
Serna Jr. narrowed the gap with a solo home run in the ninth inning for LSU, but Maddox Webb secured his third save of the season by recording the game’s final outs.
