Mid City Community Nursing and Rehab held the position of the largest nursing home in E. Baton Rouge County during the first quarter of 2026, sharing this distinction with St. Clare Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Records indicate the facility had a capacity of 184 beds—61 more than the county’s average as of this reporting period. The center supported an average daily census of 104.4 residents in that timeframe.

The CMS gave Mid City Community Nursing and Rehab an overall 4 out of 5 rating, a score above Louisiana’s nursing home average of 2.5 for the same measure.

Through the start of 2026, Mid City Community Nursing and Rehab had accrued $51,432 in two fines and faced a total of four penalties.

E. Baton Rouge County had 20 for-profit nursing homes in all.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau reveal the nation’s older population is on the rise, while younger groups are shrinking. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and up climbed 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult population expanded substantially—from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A study released in 2021 estimates nearly 50% of this group—approximately 28 million people—will need long-term services and assistance, with projections showing more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
