Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience offers paid internships for Baton Rouge high school students

The Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience (MYWE) is launching an eight-week paid summer internship program for high school students in Baton Rouge. The initiative aims to connect young people, referred to as Scholars, with mentors and provide opportunities for career exploration in a supportive environment.

According to program organizers, participants will have the chance to develop transferable skills, explore personal interests, and build social-emotional competencies. Upon completing the program, students will be certified as Work Ready Youth. “Scholars gain transferable skills, explore their interests, build social-emotional competencies, and develop work readiness. Upon completion, participants are certified as Work Ready Youth, equipped for success in both school and future careers,” according to a statement from the program.

The MYWE program is scheduled to run from June 1 through July 24, 2026. Students who participate will receive a bi-weekly paycheck but must arrange their own transportation.

Applications can be submitted online at www.brla.gov/jobs under the Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience – Internship Application section. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2026.

Required documents include a birth certificate, Social Security card, current report card, parent or guardian driver’s license or ID, proof of East Baton Rouge Parish residency, and proof of SNAP or public assistance benefits.
