Mayor-President Sid Edwards issued a statement on April 22 regarding the death of former Southern University Chancellor James Llorens.
The announcement marks the loss of a significant figure in Baton Rouge’s educational and civic community.
In his statement, Edwards said, “Baton Rouge lost an icon and pioneer in the passing of Dr. Llorens. While I didn’t have the pleasure of working with him as Mayor-President, Dr. Llorens served in top City-Parish government roles in three prior administrations. He was known as a remarkable leader, family man, and public servant. His legacy of work will last for generations to come. We pray comfort for his family and for all who knew him.”
Llorens held leadership positions at Southern University and contributed to city-parish government under three different administrations before Edwards took office.
His influence is remembered by colleagues and community members alike, who recognize his dedication to public service and education.
Edwards’ message concluded with condolences to Llorens’ family and those affected by his passing.
