The LSU women’s tennis team won against Stephen F. Austin with a 4-0 sweep at the LSU Tennis Complex on May 2, advancing to the NCAA Regional Championship match.

This victory allows LSU, now holding a 20-9 record, to continue their postseason run while Stephen F. Austin concludes their season at 11-9.

Head coach Taylor Fogleman said, “Really good start to the tournament for our group. Huge credit to Stephen F. Austin, who had a great season and really grinded their way through the conference tournament to take that title, so we knew we had to be prepared. I thought our girls were, frankly, really good, efficient, and took care of business. We’re certainly going to need to play a little bit better against a Rice team that took down TCU pretty comfortably in singles today. Still, our group is really excited for the opportunity to play for a Super Regional spot tomorrow. I hope we can get another great crowd out here to support them. I really appreciate everyone coming out this afternoon, and we’ll be ready to go at 2:00 tomorrow.”

LSU started strong in doubles competition with Kenna Erickson and Ella McDonald winning their match 6-0 on court two and Cadence Brace with Kayla Cross securing another win on court one by 6-1 after dropping only the first game.

In singles play, Kinaa Graham earned an early point for LSU with an eleven-game streak resulting in a straight set win (6-1, 6-0). Carolina Kuhl followed by winning her match on court five (6-2, 6-1), extending her personal winning streak as well as contributing another point for LSU.

Kayla Cross clinched the overall victory by defeating Felicia Back (6-1, 6-2) on court two after overcoming initial deficits in both sets.

Looking ahead, LSU will face Rice—the No.3 seed—in the Baton Rouge Regional Championship scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
