The No. 7 LSU women’s tennis team defeated Arkansas 4-0 on Mar. 13 at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville.
The win brings LSU to a 10-4 overall record and an even 3-3 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas falls to 10-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The result is significant as it demonstrates LSU’s ability to secure a strong road victory within the competitive SEC environment.
Head coach Taylor Fogleman said, “Very pleased with the result tonight. Arkansas is always a difficult place to play. We certainly can play better in a lot of spots, but part of that is due to how Arkansas tested us. Their squad competed very hard and created a loud environment. So, all things considered, we’re going to take a road win in the SEC every day of the week. I was very pleased with how the girls fought and the effort they put in today. Now, we’ll get some rest tonight and then turn our attention to going over to Oklahoma for a great match on Sunday with them.”
In doubles play, Kayla Cross and Florentine Dekkers secured a win on court two, while Carolina Kuhl and Addison Lanton clinched the doubles point for LSU with their victory on court three. In singles competition, Lanton earned LSU’s first singles point by defeating Alexan Panagiotidou in straight sets. Ella McDonald followed with another straight-set win over Brooke Schafer on court two after coming from behind multiple times during her match. Kuhl then sealed the overall team victory by overcoming Anet Koskel on court three.
Other matches were left unfinished once LSU clinched its fourth point: Cadence Brace was tied with Caroli Gomez Alonso; Kinaa Graham led Arina Babenko; and Alexia Marginean was ahead against Jimena Gomez Alonso when play stopped.
Looking ahead, LSU will travel to Norman for a top-10 matchup against No. 10 Oklahoma on Sunday, Mar. 15 at noon Central Time at Headington Family Tennis Center.
