This matchup marks the third meeting between the Tigers and the Sooners in the past seven years. Each team has secured one win in their previous encounters. LSU claimed a 107-100 victory over Oklahoma in Baton Rouge on January 30, 2025, during their first meeting as SEC opponents. Oklahoma won the initial contest between the teams on December 7, 2019, by a score of 90-68 in Norman as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
Junior guard Mikaylah Williams played a pivotal role in LSU’s recent 70-65 win over No. 2 Texas, contributing 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Williams made a critical three-point shot late in the fourth quarter to extend LSU’s lead to seven points with just over a minute remaining.
LSU’s victory against Texas was its first win over an Associated Press Top 2 opponent since defeating North Carolina in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008. The result also ended a streak of seventeen consecutive losses against Top 2 teams for LSU.
The last time LSU defeated an AP Top 5 opponent was during its national championship run in April 2023 when it beat Iowa to secure its first title.
As they prepare to face Oklahoma, LSU aims for consecutive wins against ranked opponents—a feat last accomplished during their victories over Virginia Tech and Iowa at the Final Four and national championship games respectively in spring of 2023.
LSU faces a challenging schedule this season that includes matchups against seven Southeastern Conference teams currently ranked among the AP Top 25: Kentucky (home), Vanderbilt (away), Texas (home/away), Oklahoma (away), South Carolina (home), Ole Miss (away), and Tennessee (home).
