The LSU track and field team will host its final regular-season meet, the LSU Invitational, at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on Saturday, May 1. The event will also serve as senior day, with all student-athletes being recognized at 3:30 p.m. during the women’s steeplechase.
The upcoming meet is significant for both competition and celebration as it marks the last home event before postseason championships. A total of 57 entries from LSU are set to compete in various events throughout the day, beginning with the women’s 4×100-meter relay at 12:30 p.m.
Sixteen seniors will be honored during Saturday’s recognition ceremony: Adeyah Brewster, Kuda Chadenga, Ella Chesnut, Callie Hardy, Jaden James, Shakeem McKay, Salieci Myles, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Jevan Parara, Gregory Prince, Jackson Rimes, Matthew Sophia, Jahiem Stern, Svenya Stoyanoff, Mats Swanson and Myles Thomas.
Several events are expected to draw attention this weekend. In the women’s discus throw at 1:15 p.m., Jillian Scully and Ambria Langley will compete for LSU; Scully recently recorded a throw of 57.25 meters while Langley ranks twelfth in the Southeastern Conference with a best mark of 54.82 meters. The men’s 400 meter features freshman Malachi Austin—currently seventh in conference rankings—and teammates Jeremiah Alkwer and Shakeem McKay.
A highly competitive heat is anticipated in the women’s 100 meter at 1:30 p.m., where Shawnti Jackson returns to action alongside Tima Godbless and Athaleyha Hinckson as well as Tiger-Olympian training members Thelma Davies, Rosemary Chukwuma and Caisja Chandler. Jackson holds an all-time personal record of 10.89 seconds—the fourth fastest U20 time ever—while Godbless aims to approach her best time of 10.91 seconds.
Other highlights include junior Jack Larriviere aiming for an LSU record in men’s javelin throw at 2:30 p.m., joined by sophomore Paul Catalanatto; both athletes are preparing for SEC Championships contention. At 3:15 p.m., a new lineup featuring Amal Glasgow joins Austin Grant Buckmiller and Jeremiah Walker in the men’s nationally ranked No.2 relay team for the men’s four-by-400-meter event.
