The LSU track and field team secured 14 event victories at the Bayou Bengal Meet held Friday at Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge. This marked the team’s second indoor meet of the season.
Senior Jevan Parara achieved a personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 20.84 meters, moving him to ninth place on LSU’s all-time performance list. He surpassed former Tiger David Collins for this position.
Freshman Athaleyha Hinckson claimed her first win in the 60-meter dash as an LSU athlete, finishing in 7.33 seconds. This time improved her own Guyanese national record, previously set at 7.39 seconds.
Joshua Caleb continued his strong start by winning the men’s 60-meter dash with a time of 6.66 seconds, following up on his victory last week where he ran 6.67 seconds.
Australian freshman Zoe Peacock made an early impact by clearing 1.81 meters in the high jump, tying for ninth place on LSU’s all-time list alongside alumna Keisha Spencer.
In men’s high jump, junior Justin Jimoh cleared a season-best height of 2.18 meters to secure first place and currently ranks ninth nationally this season according to NCAA standings. Sophomore Kam Franklin finished fourth with a personal best of 2.14 meters.
Head coach Dennis Shaver highlighted several notable performances from other athletes:
“Ambria Langley won shot put with a throw of 49-8.5.
Shakeem McKay ran a 60m PR of 6.94.
Princesse Hyman threw a PR of 43-8.75 in shot put.
Salieci Myles won the 60h with a time of 8.34.
Matthew Sophia won the 60h with a time of 7.76.
Marley Richard won long jump with a distance of 18-6.5.
Rafiatu Nuhu won the 600m with a PR of 1:32.92.
Grant Buckmiller won the 600m with a PR of 1:19.42.
Amal Glasgow ran a 600m PR of 1:19.85.
Isaac Lewis ran a 600m PR of 1:20.96.
Malachi Austin ran a 600m PR of 1:21.23.
Abigael Chemnagei won the mile with a time of 4:48.55.
Ahry Comer ran a mile PR of 4:53.43.
Trenton Sandler won the mile with a PR of 4:14.44.
Skyler Franklin won the 200m with a time of 24.17.”
The Tigers will travel next to Fayetteville, Arkansas for their first road competition at the Razorback Invitational scheduled for January 30–31.
