No. 22 LSU secured an 8-5 victory over Ole Miss on April 19, completing a sweep of the series at Tiger Park.
The win marks LSU’s first sweep of the season and its first against Ole Miss since 2015. The Tigers have now improved to a .500 record in Southeastern Conference play after winning nine of their last thirteen league games.
LSU rallied for the third straight game, with Tori Edwards hitting a leadoff home run in the fifth inning to tie the score at five. In the sixth inning, Alix Franklin delivered an RBI triple that scored Jalia Lassiter and then crossed home plate herself due to an error by Ole Miss. Edwards followed with her second home run of the day, giving LSU an 8-5 lead going into the seventh inning.
“Our offense was incredible,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “I thought we fought really hard. I told the team after the game that there were some things we could clean up. We can obviously execute better in some ways, but I don’t know if anyone could fight any harder than that. Their fight was incredible. The way the offense controlled the strike zone all weekend was incredible. We were able to use so many different people. I was really proud of the effort all weekend long.”
Edwards finished three-for-three at bat with two home runs, two runs scored, two runs batted in, and one walk—her third career multi-homer game and her first against a conference opponent. Lassiter added two hits, two runs scored and drove in two more while Franklin contributed two hits including her sixth triple of the season.
Pitcher Paytn Monticelli claimed all three wins for LSU during this series as a reliever, posting a perfect earned run average over seven innings pitched across three games.
Ole Miss started strong with Madi George’s two-run homer but ultimately fell behind as LSU responded with four runs in their half of the second inning and continued to rally throughout key moments late in the game.
Looking ahead, LSU will travel for its final road SEC series against Mississippi State from April 25-27.
