LSU won its third Southeastern Conference (SEC) series of the season with a 7-6 victory against Ole Miss on April 18 at Tiger Park.
The win marked LSU’s first home SEC series victory this year, bringing their record to 31-14 overall and 8-9 in conference play. The close game saw several lead changes, highlighting contributions from multiple players on both teams.
Tori Edwards drove in the game-winning run for the second straight game, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning after a nine-pitch battle. Head Coach Beth Torina said, “It’s cool to see so many people contribute. People are really understanding their role. Some may not have the role they wanted when the season started, but they’ve embraced it and are performing well. Whether it’s leading off an inning, pinch running, or catching the last pitch, they’ve accepted whatever role we ask. We have a deep team with many contributors. It feels like you’re playing against 23 players when you face us.” Edwards finished with one hit and two runs batted in.
Pitcher Paytn Monticelli secured her second win of the series by closing out the final innings and stranding two Ole Miss runners in scoring position during the seventh inning. Kylee Edwards led LSU offensively by going two-for-four at bat and driving in three runs for her tenth multi-RBI game of the season. Jalia Lassiter also had a strong performance with two hits, three runs scored—matching her career high—and one walk.
The game began with an early home run from Ole Miss’ Mackenzie Pickens before LSU responded to take a brief lead. Both teams traded leads throughout until Kennedy Bunker tied it for Ole Miss in the sixth inning before Tori Edwards’ decisive RBI walk put LSU ahead for good.
The final matchup between LSU and Ole Miss is scheduled for Sunday afternoon and will be streamed online.
