The LSU men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of the Ford Collegiate tournament in fourth place with a nine-under score on Apr. 13. The event is being held at the par-70, 7,259-yard Ford Field & River Golf Course in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
The Tigers had to adjust their lineup when Arni Sveinsson was unable to compete, resulting in freshman Hudson Lawson stepping into the roster. Junior Jay Mendell and freshman Dan Hayes led LSU early by each shooting a four-under-par 66 during the first round. Both players posted even-par scores of 70 in round two, putting them tied for ninth heading into Tuesday’s final round. Hayes also recorded ten birdies through the first 36 holes, placing him among the top five players for birdies made so far.
Junior Noah McWilliams was another standout for LSU, finishing one under par with a score of 69 in round one and an even-par second round to tie for twenty-fourth overall after two rounds. Senior Matty Dodd-Berry completed both rounds at even par and is currently tied for thirty-first place. Freshman Hudson Lawson sits at five over par after posting scores of 72 and 73.
In team standings, Texas leads at thirty under par followed by Auburn at twenty-three under and Georgia Southern at twelve under before LSU’s nine-under total through two rounds.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s final round, several LSU golfers are positioned within striking distance of higher individual placements as they aim to improve their standing on the leaderboard.
