The LSU men’s golf team finished in third place with a 14-under score at The Ford Collegiate, according to an April 14 announcement. The tournament took place over two days at the par-70, 7,259-yard Ford Field & River Golf Course in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
The result is notable as LSU competed against several top-ranked teams and delivered strong individual performances. Texas claimed first place with a score of 43 under par, followed by Auburn at 32 under par.
Junior Jay Mendell led the Tigers throughout the event and tied for fifteenth overall. Mendell opened with a four-under-par round of 66 on Monday and followed up with two rounds of even-par 70 to finish. He also led the field in par-four scoring average at exactly four strokes per hole.
Noah McWilliams, another junior from Louisiana, also tied for fifteenth after posting his best round—a three-under-par 67—on Tuesday. Senior Matty Dodd-Berry was one stroke behind his teammates and finished tied for twenty-first; he shot a three-under-par final round and had one of the top averages on par-three holes during the tournament.
Freshmen Dan Hayes and Hudson Lawson rounded out LSU’s lineup. Hayes finished tied for twenty-sixth after starting strong with a four-under opening round. Lawson replaced Arni Sveinsson shortly before play began and ended six over par in forty-ninth position.
Looking ahead, LSU will continue its season aiming to build on this result against other leading collegiate teams.
