The LSU track and field team will host the LSU Bayou Bengal meet at the Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge on Friday, January 23. This marks the second consecutive week that LSU is holding a home meet. Admission to the event is free, but there will be no live stream available.
A total of 44 LSU athletes, including 23 men and 21 women, are scheduled to compete in this weekend’s meet. The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. Central Time with the women’s weight throw. Track events are set to start at noon with the men’s 60-meter hurdles.
Participating teams include LSU, Dillard, Hinds Community College, Louisiana Tech, Loyola-New Orleans, Meridian Community College, Mobile, Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU), South Alabama, Southern University, University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM), and Xavier-Louisiana.
Several events have been highlighted for spectators to watch:
In the women’s shot put at noon, junior Ambria Langley aims to build on her personal-best throw of 15.31 meters from last week’s Purple Tiger meet—a mark that currently ranks ninth in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). She hopes to reach or surpass the 16-meter threshold this season.
The women’s high jump begins at 12:30 p.m., where freshman Zoe Peacock seeks to improve upon her debut win last week with a clearance of 1.77 meters. Her performance has placed her sixth in the SEC and just below LSU’s all-time top ten list for this event.
The men’s 60-meter race starts with heats at 12:40 p.m., followed by finals at 1:15 p.m. Junior Joshua Caleb won his debut last week with a time of 6.67 seconds; teammate Jaiden Reid finished close behind and is aiming for victory this time. Myles Thomas is also expected to make his season debut after previously recording a personal best of 6.61 seconds.
At 2:30 p.m., three Tiger high jumpers—Justine Jimoh (who cleared 2.13 meters for second place last week), Kameron Franklin, and Kuda Chadenga—will attempt to improve their results from previous competitions.
