LSU held its annual Football Pro Day on March 23, bringing together NFL scouts, coaches, and executives to evaluate draft-eligible players through a series of workouts and measurements.
The event is significant for LSU athletes seeking to impress professional teams ahead of the NFL Draft. Pro Day allows players to showcase their physical skills in front of league personnel, potentially impacting their draft positions.
The day began with prospect paperwork and measurements at 8 a.m., followed by registration for NFL personnel. Workouts started at 10 a.m., featuring events such as the vertical jump, broad jump, 40-yard dash, L drill, bench press, specialist work outdoors, and position-specific drills indoors. Measurements were announced around 10:15 a.m., with jumps and runs commencing shortly after.
Notable participants included Aaron Anderson (wide receiver), Barion Brown (wide receiver), Jimari Butler (edge rusher), Mansoor Delane (cornerback), Bernard Gooden (tight end), Jacobian Guillory (defensive tackle), Chris Hilton Jr. (wide receiver), Patrick Payton (edge rusher), Harold Perkins Jr. (linebacker), Jack Pyburn (edge rusher), Damian Ramos (place kicker), Bauer Sharp (tight end), Zavion Thomas (wide receiver), Josh Thompson (offensive lineman) and West Weeks (linebacker). Each player completed various tests measuring speed, strength, agility and explosiveness; some did not participate in all events.
NFL teams also conducted interviews with up to sixty prospects at the player hotel during the event. These interviews are designed to assess character traits such as mental toughness and football intelligence. The physical tests included standard combine drills like the bench press—where players lift 225 pounds as many times as possible—the vertical jump measured against adjustable flags on a pole, broad jump from standing position for distance measurement, shuttle runs testing lateral movement or endurance over different distances, three-cone drills evaluating agility around cones set in an L shape pattern—and position-specific exercises tailored by coaches or scouts.
Videos from media sessions following Pro Day are expected to be released soon.
