Texas A&M defeated LSU 5-2 in the series finale at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field, on April 19. The Aggies scored five runs within the first four innings and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.
The outcome brings Texas A&M’s record to 31-7 overall and 12-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while LSU now stands at 23-18 overall and 6-12 in conference games. The result highlights a challenging stretch for LSU as they look to improve their standing.
LSU coach Jay Johnson said, “We are certainly not where we want to be at this juncture, and not where we expect to be. The only way I know how to move forward is through hard work. We will have some individual meetings, put together plans for our players and help them apply it to the games.”
Texas A&M reliever Gavin Lyons earned his second win of the series after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings with no hits allowed, two walks, and two strikeouts. LSU starting pitcher Zac Cowan took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits over just under three innings.
Despite early scoring by Texas A&M—including home runs from Caden Sorrell and Chris Hacopian—LSU’s bullpen kept the Aggies scoreless over the final five innings with relief efforts from Deven Sheerin, Santiago Garcia, and Gavin Guidry. Offensively for LSU, Cade Arrambide hit his tenth home run of the season in the eighth inning.
LSU is scheduled to return Tuesday evening against New Orleans at Alex Box Stadium as they seek to rebound from this loss.
