Junior guard Mikaylah Williams led the LSU women’s basketball team to a 72-63 win over Mississippi State on Sunday at Humphrey Coliseum. Williams scored a season-high 26 points and collected 15 rebounds, helping LSU secure its fourth straight victory to close out the regular season.

With this result, LSU improved its overall record to 26-4 and finished 12-4 in Southeastern Conference play. Mississippi State dropped to 18-12 overall and 5-11 in conference games.

The Tigers have earned the No. 4 seed and a double bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament, which begins March 4 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. LSU will play Friday against either Oklahoma (No. 5 seed), Florida (No. 12), or Mississippi State (No. 13) at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT. The opponent will be determined by earlier tournament results. The game will air on ESPN and can also be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network with Patrick Wright and Shaeeta Williams providing commentary.

Williams recorded her third consecutive double-double, marking her third of the season and fourth of her career at LSU. She shot efficiently, making ten of seventeen attempts from the field, two of three from three-point range, and four of five free throws. “Williams is the first Tiger to have three straight double-doubles since Aneesah Morrow recorded three straight from March 22-28 in the 2025 postseason,” according to LSU.

Two other Tigers joined Williams in double figures: junior MiLaysia Fulwiley with sixteen points and sophomore Jada Richard with twelve.

Mississippi State started strong, building a quick lead before LSU responded late in the first quarter with an eight-to-two run that narrowed the gap to two points entering the second period.

LSU then began the second quarter with six unanswered points, eventually taking control of the game after another scoring run that prompted multiple timeouts by Mississippi State’s coach. At halftime, LSU led by thirteen points.

In the third quarter, Mississippi State cut into LSU’s lead but could not sustain momentum as LSU answered back to maintain a seven-point advantage heading into the final period.

Early in the fourth quarter, LSU extended its lead again following another scoring burst that forced yet another timeout for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs tried to rally but were unable to overcome their deficit as time expired.

The SEC Tournament runs through March 8, with a conference champion set to be crowned Sunday afternoon.
