Louisiana State University brought together its eight campuses, soon to be nine, at the Louisiana State Capitol on April 24 to highlight the university system’s impact across the state. The event showcased LSU’s contributions in research, healthcare, and workforce development.
The gathering emphasized how the LSU System delivers results for Louisiana by expanding opportunities and driving progress. House members unanimously adopted a resolution proclaiming April 22 as LSU Day at the Capitol. Voice of the Tigers and State Representative Dixon McMakin shared several accomplishments of the LSU System during the event.
According to McMakin, “LSU Flagship Campus in Baton Rouge is seeing record enrollment and graduation numbers and opening new educational and research facilities.” He also said that “LSU Research is expanding the frontier of knowledge while working to bring new insights that create critical solutions to Louisiana’s challenges, such as improving health outcomes, saving the coast, and expanding energy production.”
Other highlights included recognition for LSU AgCenter’s ranking as twelfth in national research expenditures among academic agricultural enterprises. The AgCenter supports key commodities like sugarcane, rice, and sweet potatoes while educating future leaders through programs such as 4-H.
The article also noted that both LSU Health Sciences Centers in New Orleans and Shreveport are educating medical professionals who will serve their regions for generations while advancing patient care and medical research. Pennington Biomedical Research Center is focusing on health solutions related to obesity rates in Louisiana by developing new diets and medications.
Additional campuses were recognized for their growth: LSU Alexandria reported record enrollment figures; LSU Shreveport has become one of Louisiana’s fastest-growing universities; LSU Eunice leads two-year institutions in student transfers; while LSU New Orleans will officially join the system in July 2026.
As all campuses continue their work across various fields—from agriculture to healthcare—the university system looks ahead to further expansion with its newest member campus joining later this year.
