The No. 12 LSU Beach Volleyball team won all four of its matches at the Battle on the Bayou, held at the LSU Beach Volleyball facility, according to an announcement on April 12. The team defeated Central Arkansas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Texas A&M-Kingsville during the event.
The results are significant for LSU as it prepares for upcoming competitions and honors its senior players. The victories also highlight strong performances from several pairs across different courts.
Head coach Russell Brock said, “This was a really good weekend for our team. It’s always wonderful to play at home, and to be able to get four great wins and honor our amazing seniors made it as good as it could possibly be. Grateful for all the fans who came out to support us this weekend. Really proud of how we played.”
LSU began with a sweep against Texas A&M-Kingsville, securing points through pairs such as Emily Hellmuth and Gracey Campbell on Court 5 and Amaya Messier and Kate Baker on Court 4. Other notable performances included Bella Lagemann and Aubrey O’Gorman dominating on Court 3, Tatum Finlason and Skylar Martin winning in straight sets on Court 2, while Kenzey McGatlin and Julia Sprecher clinched a three-set victory on Court 1.
After a break in play, LSU faced Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) and won by a score of 4-1. Zayna Meyer and Baker earned an early win for LSU before SLU tied the match by defeating Hellmuth and Lagemann. However, Molly LaBreche with O’Gorman gave LSU another point with their performance on Court 3; Finlason/Martin added another win; Sprecher/McGatlin secured the fourth point.
Looking ahead, LSU will travel next weekend (April 17-18) for the Gulf Front Invitational in Clearwater Beach.
