The LSU Beach Volleyball team finished with no wins at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, as announced on March 28. The team will take a break next weekend before returning to play at home for the Battle on the Bayou Invitational scheduled for April 10-11.
The results from this weekend are significant as they come near the end of the regular season and could affect LSU’s momentum heading into future competitions. The team faced tough opponents and struggled to maintain consistency throughout their matches.
Head coach Russell Brock said, “This weekend didn’t finish how we hoped. There were moments where we played some of our best ball of the year, but we just weren’t able to sustain that excellence.”
In their first match against No.10 Long Beach State, LSU narrowly lost with a score of 2-3. Emily Hellmuth and Kate Baker secured a point on Court 4 while Aubrey O’Gorman and Bella Lagemann tied the dual on Court 3 after three sets. However, losses on other courts led to an overall defeat for LSU.
After a break, LSU faced No.3 USC and was defeated in all five matches. Several games were closely contested but ultimately went in favor of USC’s pairs.
Brock addressed the challenges ahead by saying, “When you play the very top teams in the county, there’s just not any wiggle room for inconsistencies. We had a real chat about the next few weeks that are left in the season and know that we still have a great chance to finish how we want. Looking forward to the time we must train over the next few weeks and really excited about our last home competition before we head back out to California for our conference championship tournament.”
The upcoming Battle on the Bayou Invitational will be an opportunity for LSU to regroup before heading into postseason play.
