Louisiana State University released on Apr. 28 a guide to help students donate unwanted items as they prepare to leave campus housing at the end of the semester.
The university is encouraging students to support their peers by donating clean and gently used belongings rather than discarding them. This effort aims to assist incoming students who may need basic household items when moving into the dorms.
Students are invited to drop off small appliances, furniture, bedding, house supplies, and kitchen or bath items at designated spots in residence hall lobbies during finals week. No forms or appointments are required for donations. The university clarified that clothing, custom-made furniture, headboards, mattress pads, and any broken or dirty items should not be donated but instead taken home or disposed of appropriately.
“The golden rule: if you wouldn’t give it to your roommate, don’t leave it for a stranger. When in doubt, take it out,” the guide states.
For further questions about the donation process or updates regarding housing extensions, students are advised to contact Residential Life or check the housing portal.
