The LSU track and field team finished two days of competition at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 28, with several athletes achieving personal and school records.
The results highlight continued progress for the Tigers since their season opener. Jack Larriviere delivered a standout performance in the men’s javelin, setting a new personal record with a throw of 77.24 meters (253-5). This mark moves him to No. 2 in LSU program history for the event and ranks him third nationally this season. Larriviere surpassed his previous bests during the final round, including throws of 76.65 meters (251-5) and 76.25 meters (250-2). The only athlete ahead of him in LSU’s record book is Tzuriel Pedigo, whose school record stands at 79.79 meters (261-9), set three years ago en route to an NCAA title.
Freshman Athaleyha Hinckson made her debut for LSU in the women’s 100-meter dash, improving on her Guyanese U18 national record by finishing first with a time of 11.25 seconds (0.6 m/s). This result establishes her as the new Guyanese U20 record holder and places her second nationally this season.
In women’s shot put, freshman Jillian Scully achieved a personal best with a throw of 15.70 meters (61-6.25), moving to eighth all-time in program history for that event. Ambria Langley finished second with a personal best toss of 15.17 meters (49-9.25), ranking tenth in school history.
Additional notable performances included Salieci Myles winning the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.01 seconds; Kam Franklin clearing six feet eleven-and-a-half inches to win high jump; Edna Chepkemoi winning the women’s 1500-meter run with a time of four minutes twenty-five point eight seconds; Matthew Sophia taking first place in men’s hurdles at thirteen point sixty-one seconds; Jaiden Reid winning men’s sprints at ten point ten seconds; Leah Acosta throwing forty-nine feet three inches for shot put; Ella Onojuvwevwo running twenty-two point ninety-three seconds to win the women’s two hundred meter race; Amal Glasgow posting twenty-one point twenty-four seconds as his own best mark over two hundred meters; and victory by the men’s four-by-four hundred relay team with three minutes four point sixty-one seconds.
These achievements underscore strong early-season form across multiple disciplines within LSU’s track and field squad.
