Laila Clark has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week after her performance last week, according to a March 19 announcement from the league. This marks the second time this season that Clark has received the honor.
Clark contributed significantly to the Southern Lady Jaguars softball team, hitting .556 with six runs batted in, a home run, and delivering the game-winning hit in the series finale that secured a three-game sweep over Grambling. She is currently batting .438 for the season and has achieved both a hit and an RBI in 12 consecutive games, which is noted as the longest active streak in the nation.
During the series against Grambling, Clark started by going two-for-three at bat with a home run, a walk, and three runs scored. In game two she went one-for-two before finishing with a two-for-four performance in the final game, including a double and four RBIs.
Clark ranks second in the SWAC for home runs (7), RBIs (37), and batting average (.438). On a national level, she is ranked 48th in RBIs and 97th in batting average. Her slugging percentage stands at .875, placing her second within the conference and 53rd nationally.
