LSU sophomore Francesca Fiorellini led the Tigers on April 18 with a 2-under par round of 68 during the second round of the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
Fiorellini’s performance was highlighted by five birdies over her last nine holes, helping her move up 17 spots to tie for 29th place in the tournament standings. This improvement comes as LSU aims to secure one of eight spots for match play on Monday.
The team improved its score by 14 shots from the previous day, posting a combined score of 2-over par 282 and moving up to fourteenth place overall at an aggregate score of 18-over par 578. Freshman Ryleigh Knaub contributed three birdies and finished with an even-par round of 70, while Taylor Riley and Rocio Tejedo each recorded rounds of two-over-par-72.
“Francesca really brought that round home on the front nine with those five birdies,” said LSU Coach Garrett Runion. “Also, an even par round for Ryleigh was very good. We had a much better go of it today. The ladies could have given up after our Friday round, but they came out today and really fought to post a much better number.”
As teams compete for match play qualification, No.5 Texas leads at ten-under-par (550), followed closely by No.27 Oklahoma (552), No.14 Vanderbilt (554), and No.3 Florida (555). Individually, Mary Miller from Ole Miss holds first place after two consecutive rounds of 66 for an eight-under total.
The final stroke play round is scheduled for Sunday morning off the tenth tee at Pelican Golf Club.
