Garret Graves, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Louisiana’s 6th district, has been vocal on social media about pressing issues concerning coastal management and environmental strategies in Louisiana. In a series of tweets dated November 21, 2024, he highlights the urgency and foundational nature of certain projects within the state’s Master Plan.
In a tweet from November 21, Rep. Graves emphasizes the critical nature of addressing coastal crises promptly: “The urgency of our coastal crisis doesn’t provide the luxury of time.” This statement underscores his concern for immediate action in dealing with these environmental challenges.
On the same day, Rep. Graves discussed the importance of the Mid Barataria Sediment Diversion (MBSD) project: “The Mid Barataria Sediment Diversion (MBSD) is foundational to the Master Plan. In other words, removing the MBSD would require stopping progress on protection of our communities while reconfiguring the entire Master Plan.” He stresses that eliminating this project could hinder community protection efforts and necessitate a complete overhaul of existing plans.
Further elaborating on MBSD’s significance, Graves tweeted: “The #MBSD simply mimics the very process that built the entire State of Louisiana. There is nothing experimental about it.” He argues that this approach replicates natural processes historically effective in shaping Louisiana’s landscape.
