Baton Rouge, La. – On June 13, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced that Chief Administrative Officer Glenn Curtis has accepted a role in the ongoing humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Curtis, a retired major general, has teamed with a non-profit organization in providing critical humanitarian relief to the Ukrainians. Curtis will be taking a leave of absence effective immediately and will return to his post at the Mayor’s office in early 2024.
“My decision to leave the Mayor and my service in her administration was not an easy choice. We are making great progress together in our mission to make government more efficient for our citizens. However, the needs of the Ukrainian people have compelled me to use my military experience to do what I can for the humanitarian relief effort. I look forward to coming back to Baton Rouge and serving with the Mayor to finish the job we have started,” said CAO Curtis.
In the interim, Mayor Broome has appointed former CAO Dr. James Llorens to serve as CAO. Dr. Llorens brings a plethora of experience in City-Parish government and organizational leadership. His previous experience makes a learning curve minute and ensures that the continuity of the work towards an efficient and effective government continues. “As has General Curtis, my career has focused on public service. I am honored for the opportunity to contribute to the continuity of effective service to the City-Parish under the leadership of Mayor Broome,” Dr. Llorens said.
“I thank Major General Curtis for his continued service. City-Parish government has become more efficient and responsive under his brief tenure, due to his outstanding management and leadership skills. I know that under the stewardship of Dr. Llorens, we can continue to improve responsiveness and effectiveness of City-Parish government for all citizens. I wish General Curtis well in his mission, prayers to the people of Ukraine and look forward to CAO Curtis’ return to Baton Rouge and the work we have started,” said Broome.
Dr. Llorens is set to begin at City Hall in July. The Broome administration will provide updates on Major General Curtis’ efforts and his official return back to City Hall.
