Southern University’s Tashina Alase and Ariyonna Edmond were named Southwestern Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on April 17.
The recognition highlights strong performances by both athletes at the recent Pelican Relays. Such awards bring attention to individual achievements in collegiate athletics and can motivate teams as they progress through their seasons.
Alase secured first-place finishes in three events: the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 100-meter hurdles. She set personal bests with an 11.68 in the 100 meters and a time of 13.01 in the hurdles, which currently ranks fifth in the East Region and eighth nationally this season. In addition, she ran a time of 24.07 to win the 200 meters.
Edmond contributed two victories for Southern University with personal-best throws in both shot put (13.37 meters) and hammer throw (52.57 meters). This is Alase’s second weekly award during this outdoor season, while Edmond earns her first such honor.
